PSL: Cignal HD secures semis berth, overcomes Generika-Ayala
MANILA, Philippines–Cignal HD averted a late fourth-set collapse to preserve a 25-15, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22 win over Generika-Ayala Saturday and earn a spot in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference semifinals at Ynares Sports Center.
The HD Spikers squandered five straight points but still got the right breaks down the stretch to score the triumph. They will take on the two-time defending champions Petron Blaze Spikers in the semifinals starting on Tuesday.
Rachel Anne Daquis finished with 14 points, while Jovelyn Gonzaga added 10 for Cignal which also capitalized on its towering frontline to score 16 kill-blocks against just five by Generika.
Generika-Ayala, which has won twice over Cignal in the preliminaries, leaned heavily in Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain who turned in 17 and 11 points, respectively.
