MANILA, Philippines—EJ Laure finally returned and University of Santo Tomas batter Lyceum in straight sets, 25-18, 25-13, 25-21, in the Premier Volleyball Collegiate Conference Sunday at Fioil Flying V Center in San Juan.
A reunion between the Laure sisters, however, didn’t happen with younger Eya sitting out the PVL.
Laure, who missed two straight years due to injury, had two points for the Golden Tigresses but it was Imee Hernandez and Janna Torres who led UST’s offense for a combined 17 points.
UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes said he elected to split up the sisters as UST still had other leagues to play in before the start of the UAAP season.
“We still have other leagues so EJ will play in the PVL while Eya will be in the UniGames,” said Reyes in Filipino. “The familiarization to the game is still there but the power and energy isn’t. We’ll practice it with EJ and of course we’ll treasure the moments that she’s playing with us.”
Mary Joy Onofre led the Lady Pirates with nine points.
