The defending champion Cool Smashers took a far easier route, dropping just 32 points in a rout of hapless Chef’s Classics, 25-12, 25-5, 25-15, to remain unbeaten and firm up their hold of the solo lead in the standings.
Alyssa Valdez finished wih 16 points for the Cool Smashers, who roared to their third straight victory while dealing the Red Spikers a second straight defeat.
Earlier, PetroGazz finally got back on track as it drubbed BaliPure, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16.
It was a big relief for the Angels, champions of the recent Reinforced Conference, who opened the conference last week with a defeat at the hands of the BanKo Perlas Spikers.
“Fortunately today we were able to minimize our errors, hope this is a start for us to level up our game,” said PetroGazz coach Arnold Laniog.
The Water Defenders suffered their second straight defeat.
BaliPure looked on its way to a third-set comeback, but at 9-6, it committed three straight errors that allowed a telling 8-0 run by PetroGazz.
Jeanette Panaga led the Angels with 16 points, while Paneng Mercado added nine. Setter Djanel Cheng had five points aside from making 17 excellent sets.
