Gilas women barge into Fiba 3×3 U18 quarters after splitting group stage games

MANILA, Philippines—Gilas women’s team advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing 1-1  in the group stage of the Fiba 3×3 Under-18 Asia Cup Thursday at Palm Mall in Seremban, Malaysia.

Gilas opened its campaign with a 19-8 thumping of Malaysia before suffering a narrow defeat to China, 16-14, in pool A.


Camille Izabel Carin led the Filipinas nine points against the Malaysians and added four in the losing effort against the Chinese, who are on top of the Group with a 2-0 record.

Kristine Cayabyab, meanwhile, scored six points in both of Gilas women’s games in the preliminaries.


Gilas will face the top team in Pool C that consists of Australia, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan in the playoffs.
