MANILA, Philippines—La Salle braces for another thriller when the Lady Archers shoot for a second straight crown versus a persistent Ateneo squad in the UAAP women’s volleyball Finals Wednesday.
“We need to lessen our unforced errors,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus. “Our blocking and receiving will also be key factors.”
Game 3 is set at 2 p.m. at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan, right after Far Eastern University guns for its first men’s title in five years against the University of Santo Tomas.
The Lady Eagles pulled off an upset in Game 1, dealing the Lady Archers their first loss of the season, 23-25, 28-26, 25-23, 25-17, last week.
But to bag the crown, the Lady Eagles need to win two more games since the Lady Archers hold a daunting thrice-to-beat advantage as an incentive for sweeping the elimination round.
The Lady Archers quickly bounced back from their first loss with Michele Gumabao leading the charge in a 23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-18 triumph in Game 2.
“Our inexperience showed [in Game 2],” said Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb. “But still, we showed that we can keep up with La Salle. We’ll continue to fight in Game 3.”
