MPBL: No release during season

Saying it wants to protect the interest of teams seeing action in the league, the MPBL will only allow players to be released to the PBA after the season.

MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes has released a directive to the 31 teams, warning them of sanctions should they violate the rule that was approved by league founder and CEO, Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

“We’re doing this to make sure it will not hamper the preparation of teams as they build up for the playoffs,” Duremdes said. “It’s unfair to teams that are trying to strengthen their lineups and have players asking to be released to the PBA. The best way is to finish the season before the players will be released to the PBA.”

Veterans Mark Yee and Pamboy Raymundo were recently offered PBA deals but opted to stay with Davao and General Santos City, respectively. Top rookie prospects like Santi Santillan, Sean Manganti and Aaron Black are also playing in the MPBL.
