Kaya Iloilo continued to put pressure on Ceres-Negros as it downed Stallion Laguna, 1-0, last Saturday night to move within three points off the Philippine Football League lead at Aboitiz pitch in Lipa City, Batangas.
A brilliant individual effort from Ghanaian striker Jordan Mintah just 12 minutes into the match proved to be the difference as Kaya increased its haul to 34 points behind the reigning champion Busmen, who drew a bye over the weekend.
The win also gives Kaya a comfortable 12-point gap over Green Archers, which moved up to third spot after a 4-1 demolition of Philippine Air Force.
The second placer in the league could find itself in the AFC Cup next year, especially if only one club will win the league and the Cup competition late this year.
A brace from skipper Tating Pasilan and goals from Paolo Bugas and Tonaldo Appiah keyed the Archers’s win.
