Creamline and PetroGazz held their ground against determined opponents to post victories on Wednesday night in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The league-leading Creamline fought off PacificTown-Army to score a 25-23, 28-26, 26-24 win and remain unbeaten in seven matches.
Alyssa Valdez scored 18 points, including four of the Cool Smashers’ final five points to topple the Lady Troopers.
PacificTown (2-3) dropped its third straight match since winning a thrilling five-setter over Choco Mucho two weeks ago, when it climbed from a 0-2 set deficit.
Unlike Creamline, PetroGazz squandered a two-sets-to-none lead in beating Choco Mucho, 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 20-25, 15-3, to register its third consecutive victory.
“It’s important that we got our composure in the fifth set because they are a very difficult team to match with because of their size and Kat Tolentino,” said PetroGazz coach Arnold Laniog.
The Angels gathered their wits quickly in the fifth and posted a daunting 8-0 lead that held on. They are now at 4-2.
Jonah Sabete led PetroGazz with 15 points, while Cherry Nunag added 14. Jovielyn Prado and Cai Baloaloa each contributed 11 points, while Jeanette Panaga chipped in 10 for the Angels.
The Flying Titans, who fell to 2-4, were led by Tolentino who had 24 points, and Maddie Madayag who finished with 11.
