NSAs eyeing Olympic slots will get priority–PSC

MANILA, Philippines— Newly installed Philippine Sports Commission executive director Guillermo Iroy Friday said he will prioritize requests of financial assistance by national sports associations gearing up for their respective Olympic qualifiers.

Iroy said PSC chair Richie Garcia instructed him to prioritize such NSAs like boxing, weightlifting and wrestling.

“He told me to take special care of these NSAs and facilitate their requests,” said Iroy, who took over from PSC commissioner Chito Loyzaga who resigned the post to focus his attention on the 11 NSAs assigned to him.

Iroy added that the PSC is also giving assistance to NSAs who are trying to liquidate previous cash assistance they got from the agency.

“I don’t know exactly how much is the total unliquidated so far, but the good thing is that the NSAs are all willing to liquidate but some don’t know the procedure that’s why we lend assistance,” he added.

As executive director, Iroy is mainly tasked with the day-to-day operations of the agency.

A lawyer by profession, Iroy said he will also oversee the conversion of the Rizal Memorial Football Center by July.
