NCAA: San Beda owns San Sebastian for 13th straight win

MANILA, Philippines–San Beda has so much respect for San Sebastian that the Red Lions hardly gave its arch nemesis an inch on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball tournament.

Behind the stellar performances of Calvin Oftana and James Canlas, the unbeaten defending champions posted a wire-to-wire domination of the Stags, 91-76, for their 13th straight victory.

“`We were having problems in the first three games of the second round. This time they showed what they are capable of,’’ said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.

Canlas scored eight of his 20 points in the second quarter that tear the game apart while Oftana finished with an impressive all-around performance of 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal.

Also shelling out solid contributions were Donald Tankoua, who had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Evan Nelle with 11 points, seven assists and five boards.

The defensive crackdown on Allyn Bulanadi worked wonders as the high-scoring shooting guard was limited to 14 points in an almost no-relief job. The Stags dropped to 7-5.
