SEA Games: Team PH sets 2005 feat as goal

Team Philippines hasn’t finished higher than fifth in the Southeast Asian Games ever since winning the overall championship in 2005.

And because that was done before, never mind if the Filipinos are coming off a sixth place finish two years ago, repeating the miracle of 14 years ago remains the target.

“It’s the overall championship or bust,” Mikee Romero, the party-list representative and national polo player, told sportswriters during the PSA Forum on Tuesday at Amelie Hotel. “Something less will not be at par with what we achieved 14 years ago.”

Romero said his polo squad will try to contribute to the medal machine, eyeing at least a gold and a silver.

Filipino athletes made the most out of the country’s last hosting in 2005, winning 113 gold medals and 291 overall—the most by any country in the Games’ history.
