Eddie Alvarez out of ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix due to injury

MANILA, Philippines—Eddie Alvarez has pulled out of his Lightweight World Grand Prix bout in ONE: Century citing injuries.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong bared the news on his Twitter account with less than a month before Alvarez was set to take on Saygid Arslanaliev on Oct. 13 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

Taking Alvarez’ place is ONE World lightweight champion Christian Lee.

Alvarez (30-7) got to the finals of the tournament after submitting former champion Eduard Folayang via rear-naked choke 2:16 into the Aug. 2 bout at Mall of Asia Arena.

Arslanaliev (8-1), meanwhile, knocked out former title challenger Amir Khan into the first round of their bout on May 17.
