MANILA, Phlippines—The Philippines suffered a 5-0 loss to Chinese Taipei on Saturday, ending its stint in the WBSC Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier on a sour note at Shanghai Chongming Sports Training Center.
The Blu Girls went 0-3 in the Super Round but still finished with an overall 2-3 record as the fourth-best team in the tournament.
“We have done well for a team who was assembled in a very short period before the tournaments since many of our players are based in the States,” said Philippine coach Venerando Dizer.
“We still could’ve done better if we had just made used of our chances and minimized our errors,” added Dizer. “I am still proud of my players who have reached the Super Round.”
Chinese Taipei built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third after Ho Yo-Fan hit a leadoff triple to right field to set up the proceedings.
Yen Yi’s single to center field allowed Ho to run to home plate then Li Szu-Shih hit a long sacrifice to center field to allow Yen to get to home.
Chinese Taipei finished things off in the bottom of the sixth with Su Yi-Hsuan and Li Szu-Shih hitting consecutive singles before clean-up hitter Chen Chia-Yi bunted advancing her teammates to scoring positions.
