MANILA, Philippines—University of Perpetual Help stunned College of St. Benilde, 85-83, and stopped a five-game skid in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball tournament Friday.
The Altas tied Jose Rizal University at the seventh seed with identical 4-10 records while the Blazers dropped their sixth straight game, losing eight of their last nine matches for a 6-8 card, still good for no. 6.
Perpetual banked on a strong third quarter where it outscored the Blazers 29-16 to take a slim 62-60 lead heading into the stalemate of a fourth quarter.
Kim Aurin had himself an outing with 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Altas who had four more players score in double figures.
Jielo Razon and Rey Peralta had 15 and 11 points, respectively, while Benedict Adamos and James Labarda had 10 points apiece.
Carlo Young had 20 points to lead Benilde, which is still struggling to get its rhythm back, while Justin Gutang had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
