E-Sports foundation in the works

Countries in Southeast Asia are starting to recognize the growing industry of E-Sports, with 11 nations seriously looking at establishing an E-Sports SEA Foundation in the ongoing fifth Asean Ministerial Meeting on Sports hosted by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Establishing the foundation will assure the progress of the discipline in the region.

E-Sports had its debut in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia and will be played in the coming 30th SEA Games the country is hosting later this year.

Six total gold medals will be disputed in Dota 2, Starcraft 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, Tekken 7 and NBA 2K19.

The discipline is expected to become a smash hit, as the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee secured the 5,000-seat Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan as venue for its games slated Dec. 5-10.

Team Philippines has already finalized its rosters for all six events and is looking to dominate the medal count.
