MANILA, Philippines—ONE Championship’s grand event in Tokyo, Japan will go on despite the threat of Super Typhoon Hagibis which is expected to barrel toward the country Saturday.
ONE is scheduled to hold its biggest show yet—a two-part event—on Sunday at Ryogoku Kokugikan.
“ONE Championship has announced that both Part I and Part II of ONE: CENTURY happening this Sunday at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan are to proceed as scheduled,” ONE said in a statement Friday night.
“However, we do advise the general public to take extra caution especially those who will make the journey to the stadium. The health and safety of our athletes, staff and fans remain our top priority and will not be compromised.”
ONE also said it will grant total refund to fight fans who won’t be able to make Part I of the event.
“Ticket holders who are unable to attend Part I of our event due to inclement weather and transportation challenges will be granted a complete refund. We at ONE Championship thank everyone for the support.”
ONE: Century Part I will be headlined by the much-awaited rematch between Angela Lee and Xiong Jingnan this time, for Lee’s atomweight belt while Team Lakay’s Danny Kingad faces one of the best fighters ever in Demetrious Johnson in the Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Final in the co-main event.
In the evening session, heavyweight king Brandon Vera clashes with two-division titleholder Aung La N Sang for the Myanmar hero’s light heavyweight title in the main event.
