Nesthy Petecio advances to gold medal round in Aiba women’s world boxing

Filipino Nesthy Petecio secured at least a silver medal after beating Karris Artingstall of England, 4-1, in the featherweight semifinal of the 2019 Aiba Women’s Boxing Championships Saturday at Sports Complex in Ulan Ude, Russia.

Petecio moved on to the gold medal match against hometown bet Liudmila Vorontsova on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Petecio is coming off a 4-1 victory over Sena Irie of Japan on Thursday.

Petecio’s run to the final hasn’t been easy with her first three fights coming by split decision.

She opened her campaign by edging Jucielen Romeu of Brazil in the Round of 64 before clipping Stanimira Petrova in the Round of 32 and slipping past Qiao Jieru of China in the last 16.
