Petron slayed the ghost of the last conference. Barely.

“At the start of the game, we knew that we needed to take that memory away,” Sisi Rondina said in Filipino after firing 33 points in a 25-11, 20-25, 25-22, 25-27, 16-14 triumph over Cignal in the Philippine Superliga Invitationals at Caloocan Sports Complex Saturday.

“It’s something we can’t forget easily,” she said, referring to the HD Spikers dethroning them in the All-Filipino semifinals two months ago.

But the defending champions almost blew away the chance to get back at Cignal when it wasted eight match points in the fourth set before taking the fifth in a come-from-behind fashion to rise to 5-0. Cignal dropped to 5-1.

Later, F2 Logistics turned back Generika-Ayala, 22-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10 for its fourth win in five games. —MARC ANTHONY REYES
