San Miguel escapes Columbian behind Dez Wells
MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer survived Columbian, 113-107, for a share of second place in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup Sunday night at Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Dez Wells scored 39 points—18 coming in the final frame—to put the Triple Crown seekers away from the Dyip’s striking range and rebound from a narrow loss to Ginebra.
June Mar Fajardo had 19 points, while four more tossed in twin digit scores, including newly-acquired Mo Tautuaa.
San Miguel bolstered its playoff bid at 5-1.
Khapri Alston had 38 while CJ Perez and Juami Tiongson scored 18 each for Columbian, which would’ve swept its season series with San Miguel.
The Dyip slid to 3-4, good for a 6th spot in the draw.
San Miguel takes on NorthPort in a much-anticipated clash featuring Tautuaa and Christian Standhardinger this Wednesday at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
Columbian, meanwhile, hopes to bounce back against Phoenix on Friday at the Big Dome.
