MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra leaned on a furious third quarter to topple Magnolia, 105-83, Sunday night in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
The crowd darling’s beloved import Justin Brownlee put together an all-around performance of 27 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists while Scottie Thompson and Japeth Aguilar both tossed in 14 each.
“We were looking at the standings going into this game. So it’s a big performance for us,” said head coach Tim Cone, whose squad climbed to 3-2.
Cone, though, feels the Gin Kings still have so much to improve on as the conference progresses.
“We’ve been a team of two halves. Today we played an average first half and a great first half. We gotta find a way to smooth that out.”
Rome dela Rosa had 18 points while import Romeo Travis added 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Hotshots, who dropped their third consecutive game for a 3-4 mark.
Barangay Ginebra shoots for a third straight victory against struggling Rain or Shine (1-4) on Saturday again at the Big Dome.
Magnolia, meanwhile, hopes to stop its slide against three-game slide against Columbian (3-4), which lost to San Miguel Beer earlier, next Sunday.
