Lorenzana assures security

A terror attack is unlikely to mar the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana assured on Monday that although there is no possibility of an attack, precautionary security measures have been undertaken by the police and the military.

On the sidelines of Monday’s sendoff in Camp Aguinaldo for 127 athletes as well as some 300 members of the security contingent from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Lorenzana told reporters: “Although we do not see the likelihood (of a terror attack), it is still better to be prepared.”

“Security in the events and venues (of the SEA Games) will be tight that not just anyone can enter. We will see to it that all people that get in are authorized. All spectators will be searched to ensure that they do not carry anything that would disrupt the events,” he pointed out.
