Incidentally, Jarencio was the coach of the Growling Tigers when they faced the Blue Eagles in the UAAP Finals in 2006. He led the team to a Cinderella run to the championship in just his first year at the helm.
This year’s Growling Tigers are also in the middle of a magical playoff run, rising from No. 4 in the stepladder and overcoming three knockout games to reach the finals.
NorthPort, meanwhile, boosted its playoff chances by ending the Road Warriors’ five-game winning run.
