MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University came up with twin victories in the men’s and women’s senior kyorugi category recently to grab the lead in both divisions in the Smart-Philippine Taekwondo Association League on the Ateneo campus in Loyola Heights.
Jude Solis and Raymar Bartolome had two wins each as FEU beat University of the East (4-1) and University of Santo Tomas (4-1) for a perfect 3-0 slate in the men’s division at the close of the PTA League’s second round.
In the women’s side, FEU leaned on Karla Jane Alava, Virhana Glindo and Ma. Cecilia Viray to down San Sebastian College-Recoletos (4-1) and La Salle Dasmariñas (5-0).
Competitions will resume late in June to give way to the start of classes and allow the schools to revamp their lineups, according to league commissioner Monsour del Rosario.
Ateneo, handled by national coach Jobet Morales, showed the way in the junior and grade school kyorugi competitions at the Don Bosco Makati gym.
The Ateneans nipped Diliman Preparatory School (3-2) and FEU (3-2) in the junior men’s and Don Bosco Makati (3-2) in grade school.
DPS bounced back in grade school with two wins over School of St. Anthony (4-1) and Ateneo (3-2).
Host Don Bosco Makati also posted wins over Pio del Pilar High School (4-0) and Letran (3-2) in the other junior men’s matches.
San Sebastian, also handled by Morales, chalked up victories in both men’s and women’s seniors kyorugi edging Letran (3-2) before blanking De La Salle Dasmariñas (5-0).
La Salle-Zobel will take its turn as host for the third round of the grade school and junior boys competitions, while San Beda will stage the men’s and women’s events.
