Top seed Marvin Mendoza ousted former men’s champion Gary Sales on Friday, even as defending ladies titlist Matet Salivio reached her third finals in four years in the Philippine Golf Foundation National Tournament of Club Champions.
Mendoza won three straight holes for a 3&2 semifinal victory over Sales at the Palmer course of Orchard Golf and Country Club.
He will face Mario Pagunsan, a Navyman who is a cousin of local professional hotshot Juvic, in the finals today at Ayala Greenfield.
Pagunsan ousted Tonito Payumo of Anvaya Cove.
Salivio turned back Sta. Elena and Manila Golf bet Sandy Prieto-Romualdez, 4&2, to boost her bid for a third title in four years.
She will face Maricel Amor of Royale Tagaytay for the title.
