PSC boosts grassroots football program with under-13 tourney

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will create a national tournament designed to find promising talents in football.

PSC Chair William “Butch” Ramirez recently announced the plans for the 2020 Chairman’s Cup, a platform to find the best under-13 players in support of the Football Para Sa Lahat development program of various football associations (FAs) in the country.

The PSC will partner with the Negros Occidental Football Association, which joined hands with the other FAs for the just-concluded Mindanao Cup, Nofa Cup (Visayas leg) and the forthcoming Luzon Cup on Nov. 21 to 24 at Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Complex in San Jose, Tarlac.

“Football has a special place in my heart because I have a granddaughter who competes at a high level in the United States,” said Ramirez, who sealed the deal for the talent-discovery meet slated early next year with Nofa president and grassroots football godfather Ricky Yanson Jr.

Ramirez said the top performers in these under-12 regional tournaments will be invited to see action in the Chairman’s Cup, which will be held at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
