The Philippines’ Southeast Asian Games squad turned in impressive performances in the Kuala Lumpur Open championships Sunday, with Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon, the country’s former whiz kids, ruling the men’s doubles competitions.
“We are in high spirits and hopefully we can sustain it with just a few days (left) before the SEA Games,” said Alcantara.
Marian Capadocia ruled the women’s singles in an all-Filipino final against fellow SEAG-bound bet Shaira Hope Rivera, 6-4, 6-1. Together they also won the doubles crown.
Alcantara and Patrombon showed that they are ready as a team after scoring a 6-3, 4-6 (13-11) WIN over nO. 1 Christian Didier Chin of Sabah and Jason Taylor of Australia.
Alcantara-Patrombon made the finals after besting compatriot and fellow national team member Alberto Lim Jr., and Mitsuki Leong of Malaysia, 2-6, 6-4 (10-8).
