MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines bowed to the might of Singapore, 8-1, effectively falling out of gold medal contention in the women’s floorball competition of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Thursday at University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics Gym.
Singapore was on target early, netting two goals in the first frame for the 2-0 lead.
Still reeling from the blitz they’ve experienced in the opening period, the Filipinos were then subjected to another Singaporean onslaught in the second with latter scoring three more goals to take a 5-0 lead.
Jerylou Berdan gave the Philippines its lone goal of the match in the 57th minute but Singapore scored three more goals in the third frame.
The Philippines fell to a 1-2 record ahead of a match against Malaysia on Friday, which could be their opponent for the bronze medal. is a preview of the bronze medal match on Monday.
Singapore, the defending champion after winning the gold in the last floorball competition in 2015, cruised to a 3-0 record and will face Thailand in the finals.
