Bayron shares 5th in ADT opener

KUALA LUMPUR—Jay Bayron rallied with a 4-under-par 68 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place in the PGM-CCM-Impian Masters won by Mardan Mamat of Singapore, who held off a late charge by local hero Rashid Ismail Sunday.

With earlier rounds of 68-70-70, Bayron totaled 276 to emerge as the top among five Filipinos who competed in the kickoff tournament of the 2012 Asian Development Tour. He earned $2,232 (about
P97,000).

Elmer Salvador and Antonio Lascuña both closed with 67s to wind up at 278 and 279, respectively. Salvador, who tied for 10th, picked up $1,083 while Lascuña earned $784 for joining a 5-way logjam for 14th.

Gerald Rosales finished at 280 while Artemio Murakami was three strokes behind at 283.

Mamat continued his rich vein of form to shoot a final round 69 and nip a fast charging Rashid, who fired a blistering course record 62 at the Impian Golf and Country Club on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

Danny Chia, a winner on the Asian Tour, closed with a solid 66 to finish in third place on 273 while
R. Nachimuthu, winner of the PGM Order of Merit last year, ended his campaign two shots back.
