MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas Women finally met their match, losing to a hot-shooting Thailand side, 20-22, in overtime in 3×3 women’s basketball of the 30th Southeast Asian Games Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Afril Bernardino forced extra time when she followed up her own miss as time expired that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
The Thais, however, quickly hit a deuce in the first possession of OT to complete the upset.
Bernardino led the Philippines with eight points despite playing with a left thumb injury she sustained on Sunday against Indonesia.
The loss snapped the Filipinos’ four-game winning streak. They head into the semifinals with the same record as the Thais at 4-1.
