Can’t go Wong with Elphege and Damas at Wack Wack

MANILA, Philippines—Elphege Wong and Damas Wong combined for 132 to bag the overall championship for the second straight year in the Bill Shaw Golf Classic at Wack Wack’s East and West course in Mandaluyong last week.

The Wongs combined for a 68 at the West course, then sizzled with a 64 at the East to reign as champions again in the 36-hole member-guest team tournament.

Former Ateneo star Chris Tiu and Justin Limjap pooled 133, including a 65 at the West, to bag the Group I crown (0-9), edging Augusto Theodore de Jesus and actor John Estrada, who combined for 134. Vince Siy and Sunny Sun Jr. (135) finished third.

Isaac Go and partner Louis Chan strung up 66 and 71, then nipped Hubert Lim and Justin Pe (67-70) in the countback to top Group II (10-15) with Nelson Lee and Timothy Dee shooting a 138 to finish third in the annual tournament backed by premier sponsors Globe, Smart, Madrigal Bayot-The Address, San Miguel Corp., Pacific Links Golf Development Corp., Chinabank and Pacific Online.

Jerboa Go and Justin Caballeros ruled Group III (16-22) with 142, beating Richard Ng and Jasper Ong (145), who nipped Jesus Fernando and Gerry Doria (145) in the countback for runner-up honors.

Paul Wee and Samuel Gan Nasis topped Group IV (23-above), pooling 145 for a nine-shot victory over Ronnie Lim and Willy Tee Ten, who had a 154. Philip Zaldy Yao and Romy Dy placed third with 156.

Ronald Bernardo and Jasper Kawachi dominated the Sponsors division with a 139 total, romping off with a five-shot win over Rey Aranda and Joel Panganiban (144).
