MANILA, Philippines–Carlo Biado and Johann Chua kicked off Philippines’ bid on the right foot in the morning action of 9-ball men’s doubles of 30th Southeast Asian Games at Manila Hotel Tent.

The pair overcame a bad break and to win the first three racks en route to a 9-2 victory over the Malaysians on Tuesday.

“We didn’t get the kind of break we wanted because our setup couldn’t hit the wing ball,” said Biado, 2017 SEA Games’ 9-ball champion.

Chua said they were also fortunate that they caught a struggling foe.

The Filipinos’ weakest performances came only at the fourth and seventh racks.

Next up for the Philippine contingent are Jeffrey Ignacio and Warren Kiamco who are slated to see action around 1 p.m. also against a Malaysian side.

Ignacio and Kiamco, who are on the opposite bracket, take on Darryl Chia Soo Yew and Ibrahim Bin Amir.

Biado is also set to compete in the 10-ball singles event.

Basil al Shajjar and Michael Mengorio are also scheduled to open their snooker doubles campaign Tuesday afternoon.
