MANILA, Philippines–Rubilen Amit of the Philippines put together a gritty stand to overcome Thailand’s Nuanthakhamjan Siripapor, 7-5, to open her 10-ball singles bid in the Southeast Asian Games Wednesday at Manila Hotel Tent.

Amit, third in the world rankings and a many-time SEA Games gold medalist, found herself trailing early in contest.

The 37-year-old finally got her bearings in the 5th rack, before mounting a blistering rally to upend her opponent for a spot in the quarterfinal.

Amit will face Vietnam’s Xuan Bui next, who is coming off a stellar 7-0 outing over Malaysia’s Poi Sei Wong.
