NEW CLARK CITY — Vietnam’s Tu Chien Le pulled the rug from under home crowd bet Kristina Knott to capture the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter dash of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Le kept her pace throughout, fending off the late charge of the Fil-American who on Saturday ruled the 200m dash in record fashion.
Le silenced the crowd at the NCC track and field stadium when she clocked 11.54 seconds, while Knott checked in 11.55 seconds. Singaporean Veronica Pereira was third (11.66.).
“My legs went numb, nerves got the best of me,” said Knott who was aiming for a sprints double last achieved by a Filipino in 1995 by Elma Muros-Posadas.
Mariano Masano ran 4:8.27 to chip in a silver medal from the men’s 1,500m won by Vietnam’s Van Thai Duong (4:6.63).
