SEA Games: Philippines captures baseball gold with rout of Thailand
NEW CLARK CITY — The Philippines stormed the field with a barrage of runs to defeat Thailand, 15-2, and capture the baseball gold medal Sunday in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at The Villages here.
It was a clean sweep for the PH batters, who were led by short stop Ros Bernardo, pitcher Francis Gesmundo and catcher Mark Steven Manaig.
“We just executed our game plan which is to be on the offensive, our hitting proved to be the key,” said team manager Orlando Binarao.
True enough the Philippines lit up the scoreboard with seven runs in the first frame to touch of the lopsided win.
Indonesia routed Singapore, 10-4, to clinch bronze medal.
