Medals came in waves for the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games’ surfing event in San Juan, La Union, on Sunday.

Roger Casugay and Nilbie Blancada struck gold in the men’s longboard and women’s shortboard event, respectively, to lead the medal rush at Monalisa Point.

Daisy Valdez, meanwhile, tossed in a pair of bronze medals in women’s longboard and shortboard action.

Rounding out the tally is John Mark Tokong, who chipped in a bronze medal in the men’s shortboard event.

Casugay, a native of nearby Bacnotan City, was long hailed a winner by media outfits and the locals after rescuing Indonesian challenger Arip Nurhidayat last Friday.

That duel was interrupted by massive waves, prompting organizers to move the match to Sunday.
