MANILA, Philippines–Timor Leste is not leaving the 30th Southeast Asian Games empty handed.
Imbrolia De Araujo Reis Amorin captured her country’s official first medal of this edition of the biennial meet, winning the bronze in the women’s -57 kilogram division of taekwondo on Sunday.
She was moved to tears during the awarding ceremony for her podium finish.
Timor Leste will get two more bronze medals courtesy of boxers Jose Barreto Quintas da Silva and Frederico Soares Sarmento, who both made it to the semifinal but lost.
Their victories will officially count in the medal tally after official awarding ceremonies of boxing on Monday.
Filipinos have been cheering for the Timor Leste, which before Sunday was the lone country without a medal, to finally barge into the medal race.
