With big-brand backing, PFL looking forward to better season, more teams

With fresh support from a leading global brand and a couple of venues fresh from hosting the Southeast Asian Games, the Philippines Football League (PFL) is set for a bigger and better season in 2020, which will be highlighted by its expansion and the return of television coverage of its matches.The Qatar Airways sponsorship announced last month marks the first time a huge international firm has backed the league now heading into its fourth season.

With six clubs from last season—led by three-time champion Ceres Negros—set to return, PFL officials are aiming for the entry of more teams next season that will start in March.

Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta stressed that television coverage will be a priority for the league that has struggled to gain traction from supporters and sponsors in its first three seasons.

“We’re ready to give the league more push with a big sponsor coming in,” Araneta said.
