Aldin Ayo signs 3-year extension as UST head coach

MANILA, Philippines—Aldin Ayo has said that he won’t be leaving University of Santo Tomas anytime soon, and this time it’s formal.

As per UST’s official student publication The Varsitarian, Ayo signed a three-year extension that would make him the Growling Tigers’ head coach until 2023.

“In principle, I will stay at UST for a long time. The contract is just for formality, just to stop all the rumors,” said Ayo in the report.

“We’re going to do our best to be the best version of ourselves, to be ready for next season.”

Ayo became the Growling Tigers’ head coach in 2018 and he immediately changed the fortunes of the team.

From a one-win UAAP campaign under Boy Sablan in Season 80, the Growling Tigers improved to 5-9 in Ayo’s first year.

UST then defied expectations when it roared to a silver medal finish in Season 81, losing to a perfect Ateneo team that went 16-0 overall in the finals.
