NCAA volleyball: JRU withstands San Sebastian to kick off bid

MANILA, Philippines–Jose Rizal came through with a five-set squeaker over San Sebastian, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 15-8, Thursday in the 95th NCAA women’s volleyball at FilOil Flying V Center.

Team captain Dolly Grace Verzosa unloaded 21 points to power the Lady Bombers who needed a fiery windup from 9-8 in the deciding frame to jumpstart their campaign.


Sydney Niegos, Risa Rose and Renesa Melgar also turned in double-digit outputs for Jose Rizal’s third straight win over San Sebastian including the past season.

Niegos chipped in 13 points, while Rose and Melgar added 12 and 11 markers, respectively for the Lady Bombers.
