MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra’s championship celebration continued on Monday after sharing its latest title conquest to its legion of supporters during a victory party and fans day at Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig.
The event was held just three nights after Ginebra clinched its third Governors’ Cup title in four years at the expense of Meralco anew and its fourth overall since Tim Cone took over as head coach.
“I’m so overwhelmed by your presence here and to be able to share our share our celebration with you. I understand that people were waiting since last night and it’s totally amazing,” said Cone, addressing the fans.
“I’m so proud that we have the power to make you happy, so proud that we can win championships and make you happy and my job right now is to help us win the all-Filipino coming up,” he added.
The Gin Kings, led by Justin Brownlee, guards LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson and Finals MVP Japeth Aguilar, gamely interacted with thousands of their fans, most of whom waited for long hours just to celebrate with their idols.
The fans didn’t leave disappointed as the players gave them what they came for, which was a night filled with entertainment and laughter.
Clad in their favorite team’s gear from jerseys to hats, the Ginebra faithfuls also had their chance to have autographs and pictures with their PBA heroes.
“To Ginebra’s sixth man, we thank all of you, for your heartfelt messages, your prayers and I hope you all won’t get tired of supporting us,” said Aguilar, who was serenaded with MVP chants.
