More races accredited by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in the Philippines mean bigger opportunities for Filipino riders to earn the needed breakthrough on a global scale.
PRURide PH 2020 is helping on that end, bringing the biggest cycling event to the country from March 11 to 15, highlighted by a three-day UCI 2.2 multistage race that offers the necessary points for Filipino riders to qualify for bigger international races.
“Since becoming UCI 2.2-accredited last year, PRURide PH is expected to grow bigger and provide our local riders a challenging and competitive atmosphere,’’ said Pru Life UK senior vice president Allan Tumbaga during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at the Amelie Hotel in Manila.
Over a hundred elite riders from 18 teams—13 of them foreign clubs from South Africa, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia and Indonesia, among others—will vie for individual and team crowns that will also help them secure improved UCI rankings.
