MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines held on to turn back Palestine, 4-3, and clinch third place Monday in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal.
The Azkals barged into the scoring column early after a left-footed strike by Phil Younghusband in the third minute.
Palestine equalized but again Younghusband delivered this time on a penalty in the 25th minute.
Juani Guirado and Angel Guirado kept the Philippines ahead with stellar goals after Palestine just wouldn’t go away.
Juani, the older Guirado, struck the Azkals’ fourth final goal in the 70th minute after Palestine drew to within one, 2-3.
Angel Guirado meanwhile came through in the 41st minute that gave the Philippines a 3-1 cushion at the half.
