MANILA, Philippines—India’s Bengaluru will be the backdrop of the first Fiba 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which the Philippines will be a part of.

The Philippines is one of the 20 nations which booked a ticket to the 3×3 basketball qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics. It is the first time that the event is being hosted in the Summer Games.

“We are excited to welcome the teams from 36 different countries to Bengaluru, a city which has played to successful Fiba competitions in recent history,” said Basketball Federation of India president Govindaraj Kempareddy.

There will be 40 teams (20 in each gender) taking part in the competition with Fiba and the BFI organizing the event in the city that has hosted the Fiba Asian Women’s Asia Cup in 2017 and 2019.

The Philippines is the no.18 country in the men’s world rankings and the no.4 team in the Asian table.

Slovenia, France, Qatar, and the Dominican Republic are placed in Pool C with the Philippines in the tournament.

Six teams (three from each gender) will advance to Tokyo.
