Crucial matches for San Beda, JRU
Two teams with strong Final Four chances clash with those out of it on Monday in the 95th NCAA women’s volleyball at Filoil Flying V Centre.
San Beda and Jose Rizal hope to pick up the wins that would put them closer to the semifinals, battling Emilio Aguinaldo and Mapua, respectively.
“For us, we take it one game at a time, we focus on the next opponent and study them,” said San Beda coach Nemesio Gavino.Gavino’s wards just got through back-to-back debacles against top teams St. Benilde and Arellano, which halted their strong 3-0 start.
Article continues after this advertisementWith a tall front line led by Cesca Racraquin, the Lady Red Spikers are expected to roll over the winless Lady Generals in the 12 noon game.
But Gavino said they are not taking any chances.
“We need to win as many games because there are a lot of teams in front of us,” he added. “We can’t afford a slow start, we need to come strong.”
Article continues after this advertisementThe Lady Bombers are in a much deeper bind. They won their opening match only to drop the next four. Last week, they vaulted back with a victory over the Lady Generals.
Another loss in the 2 p.m. game would dim JRU’s chances since it will still have to deal with St. Benilde and Letran. INQ
