Faced with token opposition by eliminated Mapua, Lyceum posted a 25-21, 25-11, 25-16 victory on Thursday to remain in the running in the 95th NCAA women’s volleyball at Filoil Flying V Centre.
With just a third win in seven outings, Lady Pirates coach Emil Lontoc admitted that they could only go as far as the current can take them.
“But from our end, we will try our best to win both remaining games and hope for the best,” Lontoc said in Filipino.
Ciamelle Wanta poured out 12 points, while Monica Sevilla and Alexandra Rafael chipped in 11 points each to contribute for the Lady Pirates, who have encountered rough sailing all season long.
The Lady Cardinals dropped their fifth straight defeat for a 1-6 record.
Later in the day, Emilio Aguinaldo finally hacked out its first win of the season after beating San Sebastian, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8.
Both the Lady Generals and the Lady Stags are tied with the Lady Cardinals at last place (1-6).
Meanwhile, the volleyball tournament continues on Friday with St. Benilde battling Jose Rizal U at 12 noon, hoping to keep its slate unblemished.
At 2 p.m., San Beda and Perpetual try to fortify their semifinal bids when they cross paths.
