June Mar Fajardo vows to come back after ‘minor setback’

MANILA, Philippines—June Mar Fajardo is staying positive despite suffering a horrific leg injury that’s projected to prevent him from playing for the coming 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.

San Miguel’s gentle giant, who had undergone surgery for his fractured right leg tibia, called the injury a “minor setback” and vowed to bounce back.

“I already know what giving up feels like but I want to see what happens if I don’t!” wrote the 6-foot-10 center. “It’s just a minor setback! God has a better plan, I’ll be right back.”

Fajardo has been a workhorse for most of his professional career, playing basketball nearly non- stop since 2012.

He has won a league-record five MVP trophies, led the Beermen to eight titles, and represented the Philippines in every possible international competition.

A contender for a possible sixth MVP plum, Fajardo averaged 18.7 points, 13 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in the 2019-2020 season that saw San Miguel capture the Philippine and Commissioner’s Cups.

“I have so many people to thank but I can’t name you all,” wrote Fajardo. “I’ll include you in my prayers! I appreciate all your support, love, and prayers!”
