‘All systems go’ for UAAP volleyball amid coronavirus threat

MANILA, Philippines–The UAAP Season 82 volleyball tournament is pushing through as scheduled despite the threat of the novel coronavirus.

The volleyball events, which kick off the second semester of the UAAP, is set to open this weekend at Mall of Asia Arena.

“As we speak, all systems go. We are prepared to face this situation but at the moment, as we speak, we’re pushing through,” said UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag in a press conference on Tuesday.

“Rest assured that the UAAP is committed to ensuring the safety of our student-athletes, the coaches, and the officials.”

University of the East and University of the Philippines launch the festivities with their men’s team facing off at 9 am followed by their women’s squads at 11 am.

The men’s teams of Far Eastern U and University of Santo Tomas, meanwhile, clash at 2pm before the women’s teams at 4 pm.

The UAAP has decided to mix up the schedule for the upcoming season, putting the spotlight on the men’s games unlike in the past when its doubleheaders were always played in the morning.
