When a runner in Texas, United States went down on one knee after he finished his first marathon, his girlfriend thought he was in pain.
Thankfully, he was simply proposing to her at the end of the Austin Marathon yesterday, Feb. 16.
Mark Pinales carried the ring in his back pocket throughout the race, CBS Austin reported today, Feb. 17.
His girlfriend of over two years, Tiffani Nguyen, was taken by surprise. She dared him to do the marathon three months ago, as per KXAN on Sunday. He previously won the 2017 3M Half Marathon in Austin.
Pinales admitted on Facebook yesterday that fulfilling his personal milestone as a runner was a struggle.
“The race did not go my way as old injuries [flared] up and I had to muster every bit of strength I had just to finish,” he said.
“Nguyễn Tiffani was the only thing on my mind as I pushed past the last 10 miles walking/jogging/hobbling just to see her at the finish line,” Pinales stressed. “Couldn’t have been more worth it.” Niña V. Guno/JB
