MANILA, Philippines–Gilas Pilipinas’ roster for the Fiba Asia Cup qualifying match against Indonesia will be known on Wednesday night, according to coach Mark Dickel.
“We’ll just have an internal scrimmage tomorrow, announce the team and then get ready for Sunday’s game,” the interim mentor told reporters on Tuesday night after the pool’s short training at Meralco Gym in Ortigas.
Dickel pretty much already has an idea of who will make up the final roster, saying the bunch will be featuring a “mixture of youth and experience.”
“I think you could name who the shoo-ins would be,” he added. “You bet the players we have in the PBA are going to play.”
The PBA players who have consistently attended Gilas’ camp are Roger Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Poy Erram, and CJ Perez. Later call-ups were Javee Mocon, Justin Chua, and Abu Tratter.
Kiefer Ravena is an automatic choice since he was named skipper of the selection two Sundays ago.
“We need experience but we also want to give the young guys a go,” said Dickel of the philosophy behind the cuts.
“Though there are a couple of guys who made [the selection process] hard,” he added.
Gilas departs for Jakarta on Feb. 21 and plays a Rajko Toroman-led Indonesian squad Feb. 23.
