MANILA, Philippines—Terrence Romeo suffered an apparent ankle injury during San Miguel’s tune-up game against Alaska Friday at Upper Deck Sports Center.

Romeo beat the half-time buzzer with a jumper over JVee Casio for the Beermen’s 37-33 lead but his right foot landed on a stationary bike that was located just a few feet from the baseline.

The All-Star point guard said he heard a pop near his right ankle but he hopes that it’s just a sprain.

“After I took the shot and landed, I heard something pop when I hit my foot against the metal part [of the stationary bike],” said Romeo in Filipino.

San Miguel’s physical therapist said they will still assess Romeo’s situation. The point guard’s right foot was placed in an ice bath just minutes after the incident.

A long-term injury to Romeo could prove disastrous for the Beermen’s attempt at a sixth straight Philippine Cup with five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo expected to miss the conference with a fractured right shin and shooting guard Marcio Lassiter nursing a fractured nose.
